Help:Principles
From SCWiki
Background
A couple of years ago Mark, Dave and I really wanted to create something new - a better way of getting around the content of Scottishclimbs. After much work we had a partially working version of what was known as SC3. Unfortunately, we had neither the time or the energy to see it to fruition so another solution was sought: a wiki was the winner.
What is a wiki?
A wiki is a '...collaborative website whose content can be edited by anyone who has access to it.' In essence, it gives control of the content to the users and should make our lives a wee bit easier.
Use
If all you want to do is browse the site there really are few differences to a normal web site - click the links and read the content. The big changes are in the way that every (or at least nearly every) page is editable by a user with a SCWiki login.
Along the top of every page is a row of tabs which contain all the controls for the page:
- article - the main tab for the page.
- discussion - a place for discussion of the topic.
- edit - the editing form.
- history - a full history of the page showing every edit that has been carried out.
- protect/unprotect - this is one for the admins.
- move - change the name of the page.
- watch - get email updates when a change is made.
