As the dust settles for another year here’s a quick look at who took the spoils in the Alien Rock winter bouldering leagues (07/08)

This season’s overall top boulderer is Andy Hein and a new name on the trophy, a good score in the last comp & a casual approach paying dividends. Tony Stone in 2nd paced himself so well that he only had to climb into the pub on the final night to secure his 100 beer-tokens (stylish). Roddy Mackenzie shared 3rd place with the youthful Ally Swinton, who continues to impress.

There is also a new name on the Susie Carmichael trophy as Allison Banwell took 1st place in the female hard category. She amazed herself & others by avoiding injury long enough to finish above Anna Trybis 2nd. Louise Humphreys came 3rd at her first attempt, well done all.

The Dave Cassidy veteran trophy; Dave Bryson earned the bragging rights for the third year in a row , having done enough in the third comp to sneak past his regular sparring partner Gavin Swinton. Rick Campbell claimed 3rd .

Boys <18 yrs

Ross Kirkland effortlessly won this group.

Fun categories

The grizzled comp veteran that is Digby Mass graduated in 1st place in the male section. At the other end of the age spectrum the young Jessica Mcaskey should have the ladies looking over their shoulders with a near perfect score.

Junior bouldering league

This attracted 41 competitors aged between 8-13yrs & was held at both alien rock 1 & 2.

In the boys 8-11yrs category Rowan Milne was literally head & shoulders above the rest, whilst the more diminutive Elle Hogarth was just as clear a winner in the girls 8-11yrs.

By contrast, in the older 11-13yrs category the bronze/silver/gold medals were much more keenly contested, with only a handful of points separating the top boys & girls.

Ian Liddel did enough in the first two comps to secure overall 1st place. Louise Borwithwick just managed to edge out Sophie Stanistreet & Lyndsey Forsyth into an entertaining playoff for silver/bronze.
