Muir on a Mission

As anyone who's been following the internet recently will know, Scott Muir achieved one of his major ambitions for the season when he climbed Mission Impossible, M11.

Scott had an annoying Mission Impossible theme tune as his mobile ring tone all last year in an effort to keep himself psyched for the route over the summer. All that hanging around in caves and DT training walls must have paid off for him to get it on his 2nd redpoint attempt. The route, situated in Valsavaranche (valle d'Aosta, Italy), was first climbed by the powerful Italian climber Mauro "Bubu" Bole in Jan 2001. It was first reported to be M12, but was later downgraded to M11.

This route has also just seen the following world class ascents:

  • Chris Cubitts onsight flash,
  • It's first female ascent by the German Ines Papert, arguably the best female mixed climber in the world.

A video of Scott's accent will be appearing on www.extremedv.net web site where there is already a quicktime download of Fast and Furious. Also for more pictures of the route check out camp4.com.
