Scottish bolting policy

This page describes a best bolting policy for sport climbing in Scotland. It is not intended to outline ethics in any way, see elsewhere.


Best practice:

  • Use stainless resin bolts whenever possible.
  • Place bolts sensibly where they can be clipped easily onsight for poeple of all heights.
  • Space bolts sensibly.
  • Use twin bolts for lowering off positioned to minimise rope twisting.
  • Consider placements in regard to quickdraw, carabiners and ropes shouldn't cross lumps or sharp edges.
